Neuropsychological assessments are comprehensive evaluations that help explain and understand a child or adolescent’s thinking, learning, and behaviour. These assessments involve direct testing and observation to understand functioning from the perspective of brain development.
While they include all components of a psychoeducational assessment, neuropsychological assessments offer more information and a deeper understanding of the brain processes that may contribute to a child’s difficulties. Areas typically assessed include reasoning, visual and auditory processing, memory, language, attention, executive functioning, fine motor skills, and social, emotional, and behavioural functioning.
The results are used to create personalized, strength-based care plans that address the child’s unique needs.
Neuropsychological assessment can be helpful for a range of populations, including (but not limited to):
Children/Adolescents with a history of neurological or medical complications
Genetic Conditions
Prematurity
Neurological Conditions (e.g., seizure disorders)
Neurodevelopmental Disorders (e.g., intellectual disability, ADHD, ASD)
Children/Adolescents experiencing a greater than average amount of academic difficulty
Children/Adolescents with unique or hard to understand school or behavioural difficulties

Psychoeducational assessments evaluate a child or adolescent’s general intellectual abilities, academic development, and emotional or behavioural functioning.
These assessments help identify learning difficulties (e.g., learning disorders, developmental delays) and emotional or behavioural challenges that may impact academic performance. The results provide specific recommendations to support the child’s success in school.
Psychoeducational assessments are often helpful for:
Children/Adolescents experiencing a greater than average amount of academic difficulty
Children/Adolescents experiencing behavioural and/or emotional challenges that are interfering with their school functioning

Autism assessments are designed to determine if a child or adolescent meets criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These evaluations focus on the child’s developmental history, communication and social skills, and behaviour. They are typically combined with a psychoeducational or neuropsychological assessment for a more complete picture.
Autism is a complex condition and requires a comprehensive evaluation, including a thorough developmental interview, direct testing, parent and teacher questionnaires, and informal observations.
Autism assessments can be helpful when a child or adolescent exhibits differences in their social interactions and behaviour. The results help to identify the child’s unique strengths and difficulties and provide tailored, neuro-affirming recommendations for support.
These assessments are available for children and adolescents ages 2 and up.

Parent management support focuses on helping caregivers develop effective strategies for managing their child’s behaviour and emotions. These sessions offer guidance on setting clear expectations, using positive reinforcement, and addressing difficult behaviours in a supportive and consistent way. The goal of parent management support is to navigate challenges while strengthening the parent-child relationship and improving overall family dynamics.
Parent management support is often helpful for:
Caregivers of children with behavioural challenges, emotional difficulties, ADHD, or autism
Caregivers of children with sleep difficulties or delayed toilet training
Caregivers struggling to develop fair and consistent discipline methods
Dr. Lansue is also a certified Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) therapist. PCIT requires a longer term commitment (~16-20 weeks) and requires a high level of parent dedication. This type of treatment is available upon request.
